Commercial Installation 101:
Mini-Course (5 classes)
There are a lot of upsides to installing window coverings in the commercial arena:
A steady stream of income
Build experience if you are starting out
Constant workload
Those are just a few of the benefits of that type of work. It is also a great way to break into this amazing industry.
One thing is certain, commercial installations are highly underrated.
It’s also much easier to please commercial customers than it is to please residential ones.
This helps you build your name and reputation MUCH FASTER. … and having a good reputation in this industry is key to success.

Roger's Story
Watch the recording of how Roger started a successful business installing window coverings or read the script below.
I Was Fired For Doing a Good Job ...
and this was the best thing that ever happened to me!
Here is my story.
Basically by accident, I, Roger Magalhaes started in the Window Treatment industry in 2006 as an independent installer.
Back then, I was just a truck driver, a Brazilian married dude with no college degree that was living his life, chasing the American dream like everyone else.
I bought my house in 2004 and I did all the remodeling myself. When everything was done I decided to have a cookout to celebrate. My cousin joined us and the first thing I noticed was that his phone was ringing off the hook. I said:
“Dude, What are you doing these days? Your phone doesn’t stop ringing.”
"I'm installing blinds."
And I was like:
“WHAT!? WHO the heck pays you to install blinds!?”
I tagged along with him and realized:
“Well… this isn't too difficult.”
Little did I know! And after four jobs together, I said to my cousin. “Do you mind introducing me to your company?" (he was a subcontractor)
He then introduced me to his company and I said:
“I like what you guys do here, but I have a full-time job as a truck driver and I don’t want to give up all my benefits to install blinds."
The manager said, “No problem, Roger! You can work just a couple of days a week. We just need some business cards to leave on the countertop and every time someone hires you, you’ll get a commission.”
“Great!”
I went home, got some tools, ordered some business cards and... BANG! I'm in business!
I was very happy ... My phone was now ringing off the hook.
Before I knew it, I was working between driving trucks and installing blinds for a total of 120 hours a week. After six weeks into this, something strange happened ...
My phone went dead silent.
“Wow, something is odd here. What is going on?”
I went back to the company and I didn’t see my card on the countertop! “Well, there is something odd!”
Then I asked the salesgirl there: “where are my cards?”
She said: “Talk to the manager…”
“What’s going on? I don't see my business cards there anymore …”
“Well, Roger… All the other installers are kind of upset with you because EVERY client wants to work with YOU, and they are basically out of commission. They said if I don’t get rid of you, they’re going to leave, and as you know you’re the one with the least amount of experience here, so I'd rather keep them than you.”
“Wow… So... you are firing me for doing a GOOD JOB? And keeping your clients happy? That’s alright.”
I went home very upset, and my wife asked:
“What’s going on? ”
I explained the situation to her. She replied, “Well, why don’t you go to another store and keep doing what you're doing, you're kinda happy with that job.”
“Sure, let’s try it!”
So, I went to a high-end window covering store and said to the manager, “I’m looking for work as an installer, I don’t have a lot of experience, but I’m very willing to learn.”
“Do you have any kind of certifications like a Hunter Douglas certification? "
Well at the time I didn’t have any certifications and I also remember thinking “Who the heck needs a certificate to install blinds!? OMG ”
The manager said, “Once you get a certification, I can get you some work.”
And that was the moment that I realized this could be a REAL business.
At home, I did some research and found training in Minnesota. I traveled there and that became my very first training in the industry.
From that point on, everything became more professional and I NEVER stopped learning. I still go to trainings and seminars every chance I get.
These are just SOME of the certificates that I have on my wall now.
It got to the point that I've now made a real name for myself in the industry.
I write articles, teach seminars, participate in webinars and more.
Today, I consider myself to be a successful Window Treatment Installer, with more than 700 five-star reviews of happy clients.
What people like you are saying:
Lisa Hayse
"This type of training doesn't exist anywhere else and there is always work in our industry"
Kelli Vitari
"Trading Up is an invaluable resource to those in the custom window treatment business"
Scott Allard
"Roger is an amazing installer and instructor"
But guess what? There are NOT ENOUGH INSTALLERS TO DO THAT!
Now do you see the HUGE opportunity for new installers?
For that reason, I’ve created Trading Up Academy to offer training to bring new blood into the industry. Because nobody ever wakes up in the morning and says, “Oh I want to become a window treatment installer.”
There is no school for that!
You're only going to become a window treatment installer if you already work for someone in the business or if you have someone in the family that has a business, and then you realize that this could be a profitable profession.
I’ve created Trading Up Consulting and Trading Up Academy so you can learn the profession the proper way with someone that has a lot of years of experience in the field.
Today, I want to introduce my first course: Installation Startup! An overview of the installation industry for you to see if this can be a profitable business for you also.
